About Transnet Boilermaker Apprenticeships Programme 2025
Apprenticeship programmes are open to the youth under the age of 35 years. The programmes span a period of 18-36 months divided into 3 phases. These programmes are open to successful Grade 12 learners and individuals with N3. On completion of the respective trade curricula, the students are offered the opportunity to undergo a trade test assessment. Placement is vacancy driven.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare work sites, equipment, tools, and materials for trade-related operations.
- Use hand, power, and measuring tools to complete assigned tasks accurately.
- Install, assemble, fit, and inspect mechanical and metal structures and components.
- Test, commission, maintain, and repair mechanical assemblies and systems.
- Apply problem-solving and safety principles during all work activities.
Who Can Apply Transnet Boilermaker Apprenticeships 2025
Applicants must meet one of the following qualification pathways:
Option 1: N2 Certificate (with the following subjects)
- Mathematics (Pure)
- Engineering Science
- Plating & Structural Drawing
- Engineering Drawing (Draughting)
- Metal Worker’s Theory
- Plater’s Theory
Option 2: N3–N6 Certificate
- Mathematics (Pure)
- Engineering Science
- Plating & Structural Drawing
- Engineering Drawing (Draughting)
- Mechanotechnology
Option 3: NCV Level 4 (Vocational)
- Fundamentals (including English and Life Orientation)
- Mathematics (Pure)

Option 4: Technical Grade 12
- Mechanical Technology (Welding and Metal Work)

- Age: 18 to 35 years
- Must be a South African citizen
- Strong communication, analytical, and teamwork skills
